KB Contracting & Quarries Ltd has been operating as a contractor for the CCC in the Burwood Landfill for 40 years. Originally this site was used as a as refuse area for metro refuse centres. Our earthworks crew works closely with CCC to continually improve areas as required. In later years as the Kate Valley landfill opened up we have been in the process of rehabilitation in order to develop to site into a public recreation area.

The 2011 Christchurch earthquakes occurred during this time of rehabilitation and the Burwood Landfill was used to store the 100000m3 of liquefaction material that was carted in from around the city. Our earthworks crews worked to distribute and store this material around site in an organised manner, something we are proud to have helped with. We have also helped Waste Management in the commercial mixed demolition waste and assist them when required.

We are now well in the rehabilitation process of this project and bringing this area back to the community with well-established areas. This includes creating walkways, bike tracks, horse tracks and planting 10000s plants and grasses to beautify the area. For the past 18 months we’ve had a dedicated landscape crew onsite to complete these final touches.
